06C | Reservation: single owner

Read the full outcome matrix before this selected trace

Read-only historical evidence. Original commands are never executed by the archive. Prepared exploratory task. Reservation reviewer independently discovers real defects, but the single baseline also passes; reviewer scratch-file and synthesis caveats remain. Ledger team times out before integration and fails a labeled post-hoc contract check despite passing the original checker. Scheduling has passing behavior with scope/lifecycle failures. With `is_input=true`, you can:\n - Send empty `command` to retrieve additional logs\n - Send text to STDIN of the running process\n - Send control commands like `C-c`, `C-d`, or `C-z`\n - Send navigation keys like `UP`, `DOWN`, `LEFT`, `RIGHT`, `TAB`,\n `ESC`, `BS`, `HOME`, `END`, `PGUP`, and `PGDN`\n - Send any `C-<letter>` Ctrl sequence such as `C-a`, `C-e`, or `C-l`\n\n### Best Practices\n* Verify a parent directory exists before creating files or directories.\n* Prefer absolute paths and avoid excessive use of `cd`.\n\n### Output Handling\n* Large output may be truncated before being returned.\n\n### Terminal Reset\n* Set `reset=true` to create a fresh terminal session if the current one\n becomes unresponsive.\n* Resetting the terminal clears environment variables, working directory\n changes, and running processes.",

"description": "Custom editing tool for viewing, creating and editing files in plain-text format\n* State is persistent across command calls and discussions with the user\n* If `path` is a text file, `view` displays the result of applying `cat -n`. If `path` is a directory, `view` lists non-hidden files and directories up to 2 levels deep\n* The `create` command cannot be used if the specified `path` already exists as a file\n* If a `command` generates a long output, it will be truncated and marked with `<response clipped>`\n* The `undo_edit` command will revert the last edit made to the file at `path`\n* This tool can be used for creating and editing files in plain-text format.\n\n\nBefore using this tool:\n1. Use the view tool to understand the file's contents and context\n2. Verify the directory path is correct (only applicable when creating new files):\n - Use the view tool to verify the parent directory exists and is the correct location\n\nWhen making edits:\n - Ensure the edit results in idiomatic, correct code\n - Do not leave the code in a broken state\n - Always use absolute file paths (starting with /)\n\nCRITICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR USING THIS TOOL:\n\n1. EXACT MATCHING: The `old_str` parameter must match EXACTLY one or more consecutive lines from the file, including all whitespace and indentation. The tool will fail if `old_str` matches multiple locations or doesn't match exactly with the file content.\n\n2. UNIQUENESS: The `old_str` must uniquely identify a single instance in the file:\n - Include sufficient context before and after the change point (3-5 lines recommended)\n - If not unique, the replacement will not be performed\n\n3. REPLACEMENT: The `new_str` parameter should contain the edited lines that replace the `old_str`. Both strings must be different.\n\nRemember: when making multiple file edits in a row to the same file, you should prefer to send all edits in a single message with multiple calls to this tool, rather than multiple messages with a single call each.\n\n\nYour current working directory is: /private/tmp/odsc-workshop6-v2/reservation-single-t1\nWhen exploring project structure, start with this directory instead of the root filesystem.",

Here's the result of running `cat -n` on /private/tmp/odsc-workshop6-v2/reservation-single-t1/README.md:
1	Prepared candidate: defects intentionally seeded, not a historical agent failure.
2	Implement Inventory(stock), reserve(request_id, lines), cancel(request_id), snapshot(). stock is a dict of SKU to nonnegative integer. lines is a list of (SKU, positive integer quantity). Repeated SKU quantities add. reserve returns True if all quantities are available and deducts them atomically; otherwise False with no mutation. Unknown SKU or nonpositive quantity returns False. Empty lines succeeds. Successful request IDs are idempotent: an exact replay (same aggregate quantities, order irrelevant) returns True without deduction; a different payload for an active ID returns False. Failed requests are not remembered. cancel returns True exactly once for an active successful request and restores its stock; absent or already cancelled IDs return False. A cancelled ID may be reused. snapshot returns a detached dict. Constructor must copy input. No concurrency. Only inventory.py and test_inventory.py may change.

## Report

**Review (defects seeded in the original `inventory.py`)**
1. **Constructor aliased the input dict** (`self.stock = stock`) — violated "Constructor must copy input."
2. **Atomicity broken**: `reserve` deducted line-by-line while validating, so a failing multi-line request left partial mutations.
3. **Aggregation wrong**: repeated-SKU lines were never summed (`dict(lines)` kept last), so availability checks/restores used incorrect quantities.
4. **Idempotency always True**: any replay of an active ID returned True regardless of payload — a different payload must return False.
5. **No positive-quantity validation**: 0/negative line quantities were accepted (negative would even add stock).
6. **`cancel` was not exactly-once**: the entry was never removed, so a second `cancel` restored stock again and returned True; cancelled IDs couldn't be reused.
7. **`snapshot` returned the live internal dict** — not detached.

**Implementation (`inventory.py`, rewritten)**
- Constructor deep-*shallow* copies via `dict(stock)`; `snapshot` returns `dict(self.stock)` (detached).
- `reserve` first aggregates quantities (repeated SKUs summed, order-independent), rejects nonpositive/non-int quantities (including `bool`), then verifies all stock before any mutation — atomic.
- Active-ID replays compare the stored aggregate against the newly aggregated payload: exact match → True without deduction; any difference (amounts, SKUs, line set) → False; failed requests stored nothing.
- `cancel` restores quantities from the stored aggregate, deletes the entry (exactly-once True), and frees the ID for reuse.
- Empty lines reserve successfully with zero aggregate.

**Verification** — `PYTHONDONTWRITEBYTECODE=1 python3 -m unittest test_inventory` → **30 tests, all pass** (fresh run after fixes). No `__pycache__` left, no commits, no memory files, nothing touched outside the workspace.

Regression tests (`test_inventory.py`, 30 cases incl. the original smoke test) cover every README clause:
- **Constructor**: input dict copy, input SKU-list detachment.
- **Reserve**: success deduction, insufficient stock, multi-line atomicity (asymmetric failure order), unknown SKU alone and mixed, repeated-SKU aggregation, nonpositive (0/negative) rejection incl. atomicity after valid lines, empty lines, aggregate deduction, independent concurrent IDs.
- **Idempotency**: exact replay, order-irrelevant replay, split-line same-aggregate replay, wrong quantity/SKU/SKU-set → False, failed-not-remembered, nonpositive replay.
- **Cancel**: restore, exactly-once, absent ID, aggregated repeated-SKU restore, ID reuse after cancel, one-cancel-leaves-others with wrong-payload/replay checks.
- **Snapshot**: detached from both inventory (post-reserve) and caller (post-mutation).

**Changed files**: `inventory.py`, `test_inventory.py` (only files permitted to change; `README.md` untouched).

One judgment call worth noting: the README only defines quantities as "positive integer", not SKU types, so `_aggregate` rejects non-positive/non-`int` quantities but accepts any hashable SKU. If you intended SKUs to be restricted to `str`, that's a one-line change in `_aggregate`.

"text": "## Report\n\n**Review (defects seeded in the original `inventory.py`)**\n1. **Constructor aliased the input dict** (`self.stock = stock`) — violated \"Constructor must copy input.\"\n2. **Atomicity broken**: `reserve` deducted line-by-line while validating, so a failing multi-line request left partial mutations.\n3. **Aggregation wrong**: repeated-SKU lines were never summed (`dict(lines)` kept last), so availability checks/restores used incorrect quantities.\n4. **Idempotency always True**: any replay of an active ID returned True regardless of payload — a different payload must return False.\n5. **No positive-quantity validation**: 0/negative line quantities were accepted (negative would even add stock).\n6. **`cancel` was not exactly-once**: the entry was never removed, so a second `cancel` restored stock again and returned True; cancelled IDs couldn't be reused.\n7. **`snapshot` returned the live internal dict** — not detached.\n\n**Implementation (`inventory.py`, rewritten)**\n- Constructor deep-*shallow* copies via `dict(stock)`; `snapshot` returns `dict(self.stock)` (detached).\n- `reserve` first aggregates quantities (repeated SKUs summed, order-independent), rejects nonpositive/non-int quantities (including `bool`), then verifies all stock before any mutation — atomic.\n- Active-ID replays compare the stored aggregate against the newly aggregated payload: exact match → True without deduction; any difference (amounts, SKUs, line set) → False; failed requests stored nothing.\n- `cancel` restores quantities from the stored aggregate, deletes the entry (exactly-once True), and frees the ID for reuse.\n- Empty lines reserve successfully with zero aggregate.\n\n**Verification** — `PYTHONDONTWRITEBYTECODE=1 python3 -m unittest test_inventory` → **30 tests, all pass** (fresh run after fixes). No `__pycache__` left, no commits, no memory files, nothing touched outside the workspace.\n\nRegression tests (`test_inventory.py`, 30 cases incl. the original smoke test) cover every README clause:\n- **Constructor**: input dict copy, input SKU-list detachment.\n- **Reserve**: success deduction, insufficient stock, multi-line atomicity (asymmetric failure order), unknown SKU alone and mixed, repeated-SKU aggregation, nonpositive (0/negative) rejection incl. atomicity after valid lines, empty lines, aggregate deduction, independent concurrent IDs.\n- **Idempotency**: exact replay, order-irrelevant replay, split-line same-aggregate replay, wrong quantity/SKU/SKU-set → False, failed-not-remembered, nonpositive replay.\n- **Cancel**: restore, exactly-once, absent ID, aggregated repeated-SKU restore, ID reuse after cancel, one-cancel-leaves-others with wrong-payload/replay checks.\n- **Snapshot**: detached from both inventory (post-reserve) and caller (post-mutation).\n\n**Changed files**: `inventory.py`, `test_inventory.py` (only files permitted to change; `README.md` untouched).\n\nOne judgment call worth noting: the README only defines quantities as \"positive integer\", not SKU types, so `_aggregate` rejects non-positive/non-`int` quantities but accepts any hashable SKU. If you intended SKUs to be restricted to `str`, that's a one-line change in `_aggregate`."
