With `is_input=true`, you can:\n - Send empty `command` to retrieve additional logs\n - Send text to STDIN of the running process\n - Send control commands like `C-c`, `C-d`, or `C-z`\n - Send navigation keys like `UP`, `DOWN`, `LEFT`, `RIGHT`, `TAB`,\n `ESC`, `BS`, `HOME`, `END`, `PGUP`, and `PGDN`\n - Send any `C-<letter>` Ctrl sequence such as `C-a`, `C-e`, or `C-l`\n\n### Best Practices\n* Verify a parent directory exists before creating files or directories.\n* Prefer absolute paths and avoid excessive use of `cd`.\n\n### Output Handling\n* Large output may be truncated before being returned.\n\n### Terminal Reset\n* Set `reset=true` to create a fresh terminal session if the current one\n becomes unresponsive.\n* Resetting the terminal clears environment variables, working directory\n changes, and running processes.",

"description": "Custom editing tool for viewing, creating and editing files in plain-text format\n* State is persistent across command calls and discussions with the user\n* If `path` is a text file, `view` displays the result of applying `cat -n`. If `path` is a directory, `view` lists non-hidden files and directories up to 2 levels deep\n* The `create` command cannot be used if the specified `path` already exists as a file\n* If a `command` generates a long output, it will be truncated and marked with `<response clipped>`\n* The `undo_edit` command will revert the last edit made to the file at `path`\n* This tool can be used for creating and editing files in plain-text format.\n\n\nBefore using this tool:\n1. Use the view tool to understand the file's contents and context\n2. Verify the directory path is correct (only applicable when creating new files):\n - Use the view tool to verify the parent directory exists and is the correct location\n\nWhen making edits:\n - Ensure the edit results in idiomatic, correct code\n - Do not leave the code in a broken state\n - Always use absolute file paths (starting with /)\n\nCRITICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR USING THIS TOOL:\n\n1. EXACT MATCHING: The `old_str` parameter must match EXACTLY one or more consecutive lines from the file, including all whitespace and indentation. The tool will fail if `old_str` matches multiple locations or doesn't match exactly with the file content.\n\n2. UNIQUENESS: The `old_str` must uniquely identify a single instance in the file:\n - Include sufficient context before and after the change point (3-5 lines recommended)\n - If not unique, the replacement will not be performed\n\n3. REPLACEMENT: The `new_str` parameter should contain the edited lines that replace the `old_str`. Both strings must be different.\n\nRemember: when making multiple file edits in a row to the same file, you should prefer to send all edits in a single message with multiple calls to this tool, rather than multiple messages with a single call each.\n\n\nYour current working directory is: /Users/instructor/Code/harness-engineering/experiments/workshop4-substitutes-20261018/runs/ledger-pro-01/workspace\nWhen exploring project structure, start with this directory instead of the root filesystem.",

balance(events, account) returns an integer number of cents, without mutating input.
Each event has id (string), seq (unique integer), account (string), kind (credit, debit, reverse).
Credit/debit have nonnegative integer cents. A reverse has target, an earlier credit/debit id in the same account, and has no cents.
Input is unordered. Process ascending seq. Exact duplicate events are delivery retries and count once. A reused id with any different content, even on another account, raises ValueError. Reject unknown kinds, negative or noninteger cents (including booleans), duplicate seq across distinct events, or a reversal whose target is missing, later, another reversal, in another account, or already reversed. Validate all events, including other accounts. A reversal cancels its target's signed amount. Empty input returns 0. Do not mutate events. The caller guarantees all required keys and primitive field types except cents. Use only Python standard library.

Input unordered. Process ascending seq.\\n5. Exact duplicate events (same id AND same content) are delivery retries, count once.\\n6. A reused id with any different content (even on another account) raises ValueError.\\n7. Reject:\\n - unknown kinds\\n - negative or noninteger cents (including booleans)\\n - duplicate seq across distinct events\\n - reversal whose target is: missing, later, another reversal, in another account, or already reversed\\n8. Validate all events, including other accounts (so validation is global, not filtered by account).\\n9. A reversal cancels its target's signed amount (so reverse +credit cancels credit; reverse of a debit cancels the debit, i.e. adds back).\\n10. Empty input returns 0.\\n11. Do not mutate events.\\n12. Caller guarantees all required keys and primitive field types EXCEPT cents. So cents can be anything (bool, string, float, negative, etc.) and must be validated as nonnegative integer (and bool rejected). Other fields (id, seq, account, kind) are guaranteed to be correct types already, so I don't need to validate their types. But I still need to validate kind VALUE (unknown kind). target presence etc.\\n\\nKey bug analysis of current code:\\n- reverse: current code subtracts e['cents'] but reverse has no cents -> KeyError. And it doesn't cancel target's signed amount; it just subtracts cents (which doesn't exist). Need to look up target and apply opposite.\\n- Duplicate detection: uses seen id and skips, but \\\"reused id with different content\\\" must raise. Need to track id->content and raise if same id different content.\\n- Duplicate seq across distinct events must raise (two distinct events with same seq).\\n- cents validation: negative, noninteger, bool must raise.\\n- Validation must apply to ALL events including other accounts.\\n- reverse target must be earlier (by seq), in same account, be a credit/debit (not reverse), not already reversed.\\n\\nCurrent code skips validation for other accounts entirely and has wrong reverse logic.\\n\\nLet me design the correct implementation.\\n\\nSort events by seq. If duplicate seq across distinct events -> raise.\\n\\nFor each event:\\n- validate cents for credit/debit: must be nonnegative integer and not bool. For reverse, no cents key (guaranteed? contract says reverse has no cents; caller guarantees primitive field types except cents — but target presence). Actually reverse \\\"has no cents\\\". So we shouldn't read cents for reverse.\\n- kind validation: must be in {credit, debit, reverse} else raise.\\n- For reverse: target must reference an earlier credit/debit in same account, not another reverse, not already reversed.\\n\\nid tracking: map id -> full event content (to detect reused id with different content). Since duplicates are exact retries (same content), compare full content.\\n\\nLet me think about how to compare content. Event is a dict. For a duplicate, all fields must match exactly. The contract says \\\"Exact duplicate events are delivery retries and count once.\\\" and \\\"A reused id with any different content ... raises ValueError.\\\"\\n\\nSo I keep a dict id->event (a snapshot). When I see a previously seen id, I compare the whole event. But careful: cents is the only field whose type isn't guaranteed; but for comparison we compare values. For exact duplicate, we can compare the dicts directly. But note reverse has no cents — comparing dicts directly is fine if both lack cents.\\n\\nActually wait — could there be nuances? Let me keep it simple: store the first event as a canonical snapshot (a copy), and when encountering same id, compare equality. If equal, it's a retry, skip. If not equal, raise ValueError.\\n\\nBut there's subtlety with bool vs int cents in duplicate: 1 == True in Python. If first event had cents=1 and retry had cents=True, dict equality would treat them equal (1 == True). But True is an invalid cents; the retry with True should be rejected for noninteger cents? Actually \\\"noninteger cents (including booleans)\\\" — so a retry with cents=True should raise. But dict comparison 1 == True means {cents:1} == {cents:True} is True, so it'd be treated as duplicate and skipped, but the invalid bool would be silently accepted.\\n\\nTo be safe, I should validate each event's cents BEFORE dedup, or validate regardless of dedup. Actually, the contract says \\\"Validate all events\\\" — so even retries should be validated? A retry is an exact duplicate; if original was valid, retry is valid too. But a \\\"reused id with different content\\\" raises. The bool issue: if original cents=1 (int) and retry cents=True (bool), that's \\\"different content\\\"? 1 == True in Python so content appears same. Hmm.\\n\\nSimplest robust approach: validate every event fully (cents, kind, etc.) before dedup. For a credit/debit, validate cents is integer and not bool and nonnegative. If retry has cents=True, it raises on bool check. That aligns with \\\"noninteger cents (including booleans)\\\" rejection. Good — validate first.\\n\\nOrder of operations per event (after sorting, and checking duplicate seq):\\n1. Validate kind is known.\\n2. If credit/debit: validate cents (isinstance int, not bool, >= 0).\\n3. id dedup: if id seen before, compare content; if same -> it's retry skip (but we've already validated? we should validate then dedup). Actually if we validate first, then a duplicate that differs only in cents type would be caught by validation. But what about a duplicate that differs in account or kind? e.g. same id, account A vs account B. That's \\\"reused id with different content\\\" -> raise. So after validating, do dedup comparison which will catch that.\\n\\nWait but if we validate first and raise on invalid cents in the retry, that's fine and consistent.\\n\\nLet me structure:\\n\\n```\\nseen_ids = {} # id -> canonical snapshot\\nseen_seqs = {} # seq -> ? to detect duplicate seq\\n```\\n\\nDuplicate seq: \\\"duplicate seq across distinct events\\\". Two distinct events (different id) with same seq -> raise. If same id with same seq (exact duplicate) -> that's allowed (retry). So I check: if seq already used by a different id -> raise. Or check after dedup.\\n\\nActually simpler: process in sorted order. Track seq->id mapping. For each event, if seq in seq_map and seq_map[seq] != id -> raise (duplicate seq across distinct events). If same id -> this is a retry, fine (but must have identical content, checked separately).\\n\\nHmm but \\\"duplicate seq across distinct events\\\" - distinct events means different id. So if same id appears with same seq twice, it's a retry not distinct. Fine.\\n\\nLet me combine:\\n\\n```python\\ndef balance(events, account):\\n seen = {} # id -> event snapshot\\n total = 0\\n # reverse handling needs to know target status and signed amount\\n # we process ascending seq\\n reversed_ids = set() # ids that have been reversed\\n # need to know each credit/debit's signed contribution to account? \\n```\\n\\nFor reversal: \\\"A reversal cancels its target's signed amount.\\\" So if target is a credit of X cents, reversal adds +X back to reverse the credit (net zero). Wait signed amount of a credit is +X on balance. Canceling means -= X? Let me think: credit adds X. Reversal cancels the credit, so it should subtract X (undo the credit). So reversal of a credit subtracts X. Reversal of a debit (debit subtracted X from total) cancels, so adds X back.\\n\\nSo reversal effect = opposite of target's effect. Target credit effect +X, reversal effect -X. Target debit effect -X, reversal effect +X.\\n\\nCurrent code does `total -= e['cents']` for reverse which is wrong (no cents, and wrong sign for debit targets).\\n\\nWe need target's cents and kind. Since target is \\\"earlier\\\" (lower seq), it's already processed. We can store a map id -> {'cents':..., 'kind':...} for credit/debit events.\\n\\nBut also we must validate target rules:\\n- target exists (id known and is a credit/debit, i.e., not missing, not a reverse)\\n- target same account\\n- target earlier (lower seq) — since we process ascending, if target not yet seen, it's either missing or later. But \\\"later\\\" is a specific distinct error; contract groups them all as reject though. All raise ValueError anyway. So we just check: target id must be in a map of processed credit/debit events with matching account and not already reversed.\\n- target not already reversed.\\n\\nAlso the reversal itself is in \\\"same account\\\" check: reversal's account must equal target's account. And we validate \\\"even on another account\\\" globally.\\n\\nNow, important: validation must apply to ALL events, including other accounts. So I can't `continue` before validating when account != account. I need to validate all events regardless of the target account, but only apply to `total` for the requested account.\\n\\nLet me restructure fully:\\n\\n```python\\ndef balance(events, account):\\n # sort events by seq; detect duplicate seq\\n ordered = sorted(events, key=lambda e: e['seq'])\\n # duplicate seq check\\n seq_to_id = {}\\n for e in ordered:\\n s = e['seq']\\n if s in seq_to_id and seq_to_id[s] != e['id']:\\n raise ValueError(\\\"duplicate seq\\\")\\n seq_to_id[s] = e['id']\\n```\\n\\nWait, but sorting `events` with a key. events is a list of dicts. sorted creates new list, doesn't mutate. Good.\\n\\nActually we need to be careful: do not mutate events. sorted() fine.\\n\\nBut the \\\"duplicate seq across distinct events\\\" — two events with same seq and different id. If same id and same seq, that's a retry (duplicate), allowed. My check handles that.\\n\\nNow process:\\n\\n```python\\n seen = {} # id -> snapshot of event content for dedup\\n settled = {} # id -> {'cents': int, 'kind': 'credit'/'debit'} for reversable events (only credit/debit in reverse account)\\n reversed_ids = set()\\n total = 0\\n\\n for e in ordered:\\n kind = e['kind']\\n eid = e['id']\\n # validate kind\\n if kind not in ('credit','debit','reverse'):\\n raise ValueError\\n # cents validation\\n cents = None\\n if kind in ('credit','debit'):\\n c = e['cents']\\n if isinstance(c, bool) or not isinstance(c, int) or c < 0:\\n raise ValueError\\n cents = c\\n # dedup\\n snapshot = dict(e)\\n if eid in seen:\\n if seen[eid] != snapshot:\\n raise ValueError # reused id different content\\n # exact duplicate, retry: skip\\n continue\\n seen[eid] = snapshot\\n ...\\n```\\n\\nHmm wait, there's a subtlety with duplicate seq check and retries. If a retry (same id, same content) has same seq, that's fine. If retry has same content but different seq? \\\"Exact duplicate events are delivery retries\\\" — exact duplicate means same content, so same seq too. If same id but different seq, content differs -> raise ValueError (reused id different content). My snapshot comparison catches that.\\n\\nBut wait, I do seq duplicate check separately up front. If same id appears with two different seqs, content differs, so it'll be caught by id dedup. But the seq check up front only raises when same seq -> different id. Fine.\\n\\nOrder: should I validate kind/cents before dedup snaphot? For a retry that's exact duplicate, validation is redundant but harmless. For a reused-id-different-content where the differing part is invalid cents, validation raises first. Either way ValueError. Fine.\\n\\nActually, one concern: I take `snapshot = dict(e)` before dedup. But if a retry comes with invalid cents (bool), do I validate cents before dedup? In my code, cents validation happens before dedup, so yes it raises. Good, consistent with \\\"including booleans\\\".\\n\\nNow apply to total and reversal bookkeeping.\\n\\n```python\\n if kind in ('credit','debit'):\\n settled[eid] = {'cents': cents, 'kind': kind}\\n if e['account'] == account:\\n total += cents if kind=='credit' else -cents\\n else: # reverse\\n target_id = e['target']\\n t = settled.get(target_id)\\n if t is None:\\n raise ValueError # missing or later or already reversed or reverse target\\n if target_id in reversed_ids:\\n raise ValueError # already reversed\\n if t['kind'] == 'reverse':\\n raise ValueError # target another reversal\\n # same account check: reversal's account must equal target account\\n if e['account'] != <target account>:\\n raise ValueError\\n```\\n\\nWait, I need target account. settled stores kind and cents but not account. Let me store account too.\\n\\nAlso \\\"another reversal\\\" — target must be a credit/debit, not a reverse. Since settled only stores credit/debit events, a reverse target won't be in settled (reverses aren't added to settled). So target being a reverse means target_id not in settled -> treated as \\\"missing/later/reverse\\\". That's a ValueError anyway. Good. But to be precise, all these raise ValueError, so fine.\\n\\nBut I need target account to check \\\"in another account\\\". Store account in settled.\\n\\nLet me store settled[eid] = {'cents': cents, 'kind': kind, 'account': e['account']}.\\n\\nThen reverse:\\n```\\ntarget_id = e['target']\\nt = settled.get(target_id)\\nif t is None or target_id in reversed_ids:\\n raise ValueError\\nif e['account'] != t['account']:\\n raise ValueError\\n# target is earlier (since settled only has processed events) and is credit/debit\\nreversed_ids.add(target_id)\\n# cancel signed amount in target's account\\nif t['account'] == account:\\n total -= t['cents'] if t['kind']=='credit' else -t['cents']\\n```\\n\\nWait: cancel signed amount. Target credit added +cents to balance; reversal cancels -> subtract cents. Target debit subtracted cents (added -cents); reversal cancels -> add +cents (i.e., subtract -cents = += cents).\\n\\nSo `total += -(+cents) for credit = -cents`, and for debit, signed effect was -cents, cancel is +cents.\\n\\ntarget signed effect on balance = (cents if credit else -cents). Reversal cancels by subtracting that signed effect: total -= (cents if credit else -cents). Equivalent to total += (-cents if credit else +cents).\\n\\nLet me write: \\n```\\neffect = t['cents'] if t['kind']=='credit' else -t['cents']\\ntotal -= effect\\n```\\n\\nThat cancels. Good.\\n\\nNow, one more nuance: the target could be in the requested account or not. Only update total if target's account matches requested account. But the reversal's own account must equal target's account (enforced). So if t['account'] == account, then e['account'] == account too. So I can just check t['account'] == account before updating total (or e['account']).\\n\\nActually I already validated e['account'] == t['account']. So both same. Use e['account'] == account.\\n\\nLet me also double check \\\"reverse ... has no cents\\\". If reverse event has a 'cents' key, should we care? Contract says reverse has no cents. We can ignore it. But reusing id with different content... not relevant.\\n\\nNow the duplicate seq detection. Let me reconsider: I do it in a separate pre-pass over sorted list. But sorted list order by seq with ties for same seq — stable sort keeps original order. For duplicate seq across distinct events, I need to detect regardless of order. My pre-pass iterates sorted list; when encountering a seq already mapped to a different id, raise. Good.\\n\\nActually, I can integrate seq check into the main loop since main loop processes in sorted order too. Let me just do a set of seen seq with id, or simpler: since sorted by seq, within the loop, duplicates with same seq are adjacent. But same id retry also has same seq adjacent. I'll track a dict seq->id.\\n\\nLet me combine into main loop for clarity and single pass:\\n\\n```python\\ndef balance(events, account):\\n ordered = sorted(events, key=lambda e: e['seq'])\\n seen_id = {} # id -> snapshot\\n seq_owner = {} # seq -> id\\n settled = {} # id -> {cents, kind, account}\\n reversed_ids = set()\\n total = 0\\n\\n for e in ordered:\\n eid = e['id']\\n seq = e['seq']\\n kind = e['kind']\\n\\n if kind not in ('credit', 'debit', 'reverse'):\\n raise ValueError(...)\\n\\n # validate cents\\n if kind in ('credit', 'debit'):\\n c = e['cents']\\n if isinstance(c, bool) or not isinstance(c, int) or c < 0:\\n raise ValueError(...)\\n\\n # dedup\\n snap = dict(e)\\n if eid in seen_id:\\n if seen_id[eid] != snap:\\n raise ValueError(...)\\n continue # retry\\n seen_id[eid] = snap\\n\\n # duplicate seq across distinct events\\n if seq in seq_owner:\\n raise ValueError(...)\\n seq_owner[seq] = eid\\n\\n acct = e['account']\\n\\n if kind in ('credit', 'debit'):\\n settled[eid] = {'cents': c, 'kind': kind, 'account': acct}\\n if acct == account:\\n total += c if kind == 'credit' else -c\\n else:\\n target = settled.get(e['target'])\\n if target is None or e['target'] in reversed_ids:\\n raise ValueError(...)\\n if acct != target['account']:\\n raise ValueError(...)\\n reversed_ids.add(e['target'])\\n if acct == account:\\n effect = target['cents'] if target['kind'] == 'credit' else -target['cents']\\n total -= effect\\n\\n return total\\n```\\n\\nWait, there's an issue: the duplicate seq check happens AFTER dedup. But a retry (same id) is skipped before seq check. But what about same id with same seq appearing twice — first time registers seq_owner, second time hits `if eid in seen_id` and continues before seq check. Good.\\n\\nBut consider: duplicate seq across distinct events — event A (id=A, seq=5) and event B (id=B, seq=5). Order in sorted is stable. First processed A registers seq_owner[5]=A. Then B: eid=B not in seen_id, so dedup passes, then seq check: seq 5 in seq_owner -> raise. Good.\\n\\nNow, \\\"reused id with different content even on another account raises\\\". Covered by seen_id dict comparison. Good.\\n\\nNow the cents validation: bool. In Python, isinstance(True, int) is True. So check `isinstance(c, bool)` first to reject bools. Good.\\n\\nNoninteger cents: float 5.0 -> isinstance int False -> raise. Good. Negative -> c < 0 raise. Good.\\n\\nWhat about reverse target validation order: \\\"target is missing, later, another reversal, in another account, or already reversed\\\". My `settled.get(target)` returns None if missing OR later (not yet processed) OR it's a reverse (not in settled) OR ... actually reversed target is still in settled (I don't remove it from settled, I add to reversed_ids). So already-reversed target: settled.get returns the entry (not None), but reversed_ids contains target -> raise via second condition. Good.\\n\\n\\\"another reversal\\\" target: a reverse event's id is not in settled (reverses aren't added to settled), so settled.get returns None -> raise. Good.\\n\\n\\\"another account\\\": acct != target['account'] -> raise. Good.\\n\\nNow about mutation: `sorted()` returns new list. `dict(e)` copies. We never mutate `e` or `events`. Good.\\n\\nEdge: empty input -> ordered empty -> total 0. Good.\\n\\nNow let me also think: does the original contract require \\\"boolean\\\" cents rejection for reverse? No, reverse has no cents. Fine.\\n\\nOne more: what if there's a key 'cents' with a valid-looking but the account mismatch... no.\\n\\nWhat about \\\"The caller guarantees all required keys and primitive field types except cents.\\\" This means id, seq, account, kind, target are guaranteed present and of correct type. So I don't need to check target existence key (for reverse, target guaranteed present). But target value might reference missing id -> that's \\\"target missing\\\" -> raise. Good.\\n\\nseq guaranteed integer. id string. account string. kind string (but value could be unknown -> we validate). target is id string.\\n\\nSo kind unknown validation is needed. Good.\\n\\nNow let me also consider: should validating cents for reverse target account also happen? Reverses have no cents, so no.\\n\\nI think the implementation is solid. Let me also write comprehensive tests.\\n\\nLet me now also verify: is there any scenario where duplicate seq should NOT raise but my code raises? \\\"duplicate seq across distinct events\\\" — distinct means different id. Same id + same seq = retry, allowed. Same id + different seq = different content (reused id) -> raise. My seq check only triggers when seq already owned by different id. But same id with different seq: first registers seq_owner[5]=A... wait no. Let me think. Event (id=A, seq=5) and (id=A, seq=6). Process seq5: seen_id no A, snap stored, seq_owner[5]=A. Then seq6 event: eid A in seen_id, and seen_id[A] != snap (seq differs) -> raise \\\"reused id\\\". Good, caught before seq check.\\n\\nWhat about (id=A, seq=5) and (id=A, seq=5) duplicate exact -> retry skip. Good.\\n\\nAlright. Let me write the code and tests.\\n\\nFor tests, I'll use unittest, standard library only. Reproduce defects:\\n1. reverse handling (currently would KeyError or wrong result) — test reversal cancels credit.\\n2. reversed debit adds back.\\n3. reverse target already reversed -> raises.\\n4. reused id different content -> raises.\\n5. unknown kind -> raises.\\n6. negative cents -> raises.\\n7. noninteger cents (float) -> raises.\\n8. bool cents -> raises.\\n9. duplicate seq across distinct events -> raises.\\n10. reverse target missing -> raises.\\n11. reverse target later -> raises.\\n12. reverse target another account -> raises.\\n13. reverse target is another reversal -> raises.\\n14. exact duplicate counts once.\\n15. empty -> 0.\\n16. no mutation.\\n17. ignore other accounts (return only account balance).\\n18. accurate cross-account: validate events in other accounts globally (e.g., an invalid event in another account still raises).\\n\\nLet me write test file and the fixed ledger.py.\\n\\nLet me write the implementation carefully.</think>\\n\\n<|DSML|tool_calls>\\n<|DSML|invoke name=\\\"file_editor\\\">\\n<|DSML|parameter name=\\\"command\\\" string=\\\"true\\\">create\", \"path\": \"/Users/instructor/Code/harness-engineering/experiments/workshop4-substitutes-20261018/runs/ledger-pro-01/workspace/ledger.py\", \"file_text\": \"def balance(events, account):\\n ordered = sorted(events, key=lambda e: e['seq'])\\n\\n seen_id = {} # id -> full event snapshot (for retry/dedup detection)\\n seq_owner = {} # seq -> id (to detect duplicate seq across distinct events)\\n settled = {} # id -> {'cents', 'kind', 'account'} for credit/debit events\\n reversed_ids = set()\\n total = 0\\n\\n for e in ordered:\\n eid = e['id']\\n seq = e['seq']\\n kind = e['kind']\\n\\n if kind not in ('credit', 'debit', 'reverse'):\\n raise ValueError('unknown kind')\\n\\n # Validate cents for credit/debit (reversal carries no cents).\\n if kind in ('credit', 'debit'):\\n c = e['cents']\\n if isinstance(c, bool) or not isinstance(c, int) or c < 0:\\n raise ValueError('invalid cents')\\n\\n # Exact duplicates are retries and are skipped.\\n snapshot = dict(e)\\n if eid in seen_id:\\n if seen_id[eid] != snapshot:\\n raise ValueError('reused id with different content')\\n continue\\n seen_id[eid] = snapshot\\n\\n if seq in seq_owner:\\n raise ValueError('duplicate seq')\\n seq_owner[seq] = eid\\n\\n acct = e['account']\\n\\n if kind in ('credit', 'debit'):\\n settled[eid] = {'cents': c, 'kind': kind, 'account': acct}\\n if acct == account:\\n total += c if kind == 'credit' else -c\\n else:\\n target = settled.get(e['target'])\\n if target is None or e['target'] in reversed_ids:\\n raise ValueError('invalid reversal target')\\n if acct != target['account']:\\n raise ValueError('reversal in another account')\\n reversed_ids.add(e['target'])\\n if acct == account:\\n effect = target['cents'] if target['kind'] == 'credit' else -target['cents']\\n total -= effect\\n\\n return total\"}",

Repaired `ledger.py` to fully implement `CONTRACT.md` and added `test_ledger.py` (stdlib `unittest`).

## Defects found and fixed in the original code
1. **Reversal logic was wrong** — it did `total -= e['cents']`, but a `reverse` event has no `cents` (would `KeyError`), and it never looked up the target. The correct behavior cancels the target's *signed* amount (a reversal of a credit subtracts; a reversal of a debit adds back).
2. **No validation at all** — it silently skipped unknown kinds, accepted negative/non-integer/boolean `cents`, and never validated other accounts.
3. **Wrong dedup** — a reused `id` was always skipped, even when its content differed (contract requires `ValueError`).
4. **No reversal-target checks** — missing/later/another-reversal/cross-account/already-reversed targets were not validated.
5. **No duplicate-seq detection** across distinct events.

## Implementation notes
- Single pass over `sorted(events, key=seq)` (does not mutate input).
- Validates `cents` (rejects `bool`, non-`int`, negative) and `kind` for *every* event, including other accounts.
- `seen_id` snapshots detect exact-retry duplicates (counted once) vs. reused id with different content (`ValueError`).
- `seq_owner` catches duplicate `seq` across distinct events.
- `settled` tracks credit/debit events; `reversed_ids` enforces the reversal-target rules and cancels the target's signed amount.

## Tests (`python -m unittest test_ledger -v`)
**22 tests, all passing** (`Ran 22 tests ... OK`).
- Normal behavior: empty→0, net credit/debit, other-account isolation, unordered input, exact-duplicate-once, reversal cancels credit & debit, input not mutated.
- Defect reproductions: reused id (same & cross-account), unknown kind, negative/non-integer/boolean cents, duplicate seq, reversal of missing/later/reverse/cross-account/already-reversed targets, and invalid events in other accounts still raising.

No network services or files outside the workspace were accessed; only the standard library was used.
